After studying early singing at Cristobal de Morales Music College of Seville and having a degree at the Royal School of Dramatic Arts of Madrid, he has further studied with set designer Eduardo Arroyo and director Mario Gas. Currently preparing his PhD, he has hold a Master in Misoc Studies from the University of Barcelona and the College of Music in Catalonia [ESMUC] where his disertation on contemporary opera direction was awarded with the highest qualifications. Specializing in vocal performance and body rhetoric in the early Baroque, he has completed his training with Xavier Sabata and Vincent Dumestre.

He collaborates with some of the main contemporary theater companies in Spain, such as Abiosis Teatro [Pieza Paisaje, XXV Buero Vallejo National Award], and Ana Pasadena [Hilo debajo del agua, Vale Inclán - Complutense 2009 award] among many others. He has presented works at Escena Contemporánea, Alternativa Teatral, Escenas de Noviembre and Muestra de Teatro de Alicante, and has been selected as designer and performer at Prague Quadrennale Six Acts event. Multidisciplinary creator, he has also joined acclaimed fashion designer Alma Aguilar at Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week and DeLaPurissima.

 

The prèmier of A Welcome Guest: Microopera for a performer - a free version of Dido & Aeneas by Henry H. Purcell, starring pop star Pere Jou - has been shown in Barcelona. Rafael R. Villalobos presented his first prèmier in Germany with Noy'es Fludde in Wiesbaden, after wining the 2012 Camerata Nuova prize. (April 2014)
