Mattie Ulrich has spent a major part of her career designing cutting edge theater in New York City for such theater companies as The New Group, Vineyard Theater, Manhattan Theater Club, 2nd Stage and New York Theater Workshop.

 

Her diverse repertoire includes opera, film, theater, musicals, dance, television and print. Recent operas include I Due Foscari starring Placido Domingo (Palau des Artes Valencia, Spain and LA Opera), The Rape of Lucrezia (The Norwegian Opera), The Distant Sound (Bard SummerScape) and Zaide (Stage Director James Marvel).

 

Other credits include Off Broadway: The Cradle and All directed by Sam Buntrock (Manhattan Theater Club), Picked (dir. Michael WIlson, The Vineyard Theater), The Pride (dir. Joe Mantello, MCC), Fault Lines (dir. David Schimmer, Naked Angels), Things We Want (dir. Ethan Hawke, The New Group), 9 Parts of Desire (MET), Bad Dates (Playwrights Horizons), The Mysteries (Classic Stage Company).

 

Mattie has also designed regionally in the US for The Old Globe, Asolo Repertory, Cincinnati Playhouse in The Park, Goodspeed Musicals, Huntington Theatre Company, Dallas Theater Center, Delaware Theater Company, Madison Repertory and New York Stage and Film.

 

Upcoming operas includes Eliogabalo for Gotham Opera performed at the burlesqueO venue “The Box”, Don Giovanni for the Norwegian Opera and Orestia for Bard SummerScape. Film projects include "Year of the Fish" (Sundance 2007), "Sovereignty"(multi-festival, award winning short) and "Shoplifting Chanel".
